Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze spoke about this during her participation in the 5th International Conference “Arena of Global Democracy”, held in Miami.

Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze took part in the panel discussion “Europe and an Enlarged EU — What Role Can It Play in a Depolarized World”. The discussion focused on the role of the European Union amid growing global polarization.

In her remarks, the Chair of the Committee noted that we are living through a period of rising geopolitical tensions, the formation of competing blocs, and deepening polarization. In such a world, she said, the question is not whether Europe will be affected by these processes, but what role it will choose for itself. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze noted that, unlike other global actors, the European Union is built not on domination, but on integration; not on spheres of influence, but on shared rules. “This gives Europe something truly rare in today’s world. At a time when many international institutions are weakening, the EU continues to demonstrate that cooperation can be more effective than confrontation, that rules can prevail over brute force, and that diversity can be managed without disintegration,” she said.

According to Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, EU enlargement is not merely a technical process, but above all — a geopolitical instrument that helps strengthen stability and democratic governance. She emphasized that enlargement of the European Union can expand the zone of predictability, strengthen Europe’s role on the global stage and, at the same time, reduce the space for instability.

The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU paid particular attention to Ukraine, noting that the path to EU membership is a civilizational choice for Ukrainians. She stressed that Ukraine, for its part, can bring to the European Union resilience in the face of aggression, a strong democratic mandate under extraordinary circumstances, and a clear understanding of the cost of geopolitical ambiguity. “Ukraine’s experience reminds Europe that peace cannot be taken for granted, and that values must not only be proclaimed, but also defended. In this sense, Ukraine is not simply integrating into the EU — it is helping to rethink its purpose,” the Chair of the Committee said.

Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze is convinced that enlargement of the European Union, including Ukraine’s accession, will help strengthen Europe’s role in shaping a more stable and less polarized world. “Enlargement of the European Union and Ukraine’s membership are not a risk to be managed. They are an opportunity to be seized. An opportunity to prove that even in a divided world, unity based on values and shared interests is real,” the Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU concluded.
