During the session dedicated to the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze addressed the participants and recalled the challenges facing the European community.
“You are assuming the Presidency at a time when Europe is constantly confronted with very serious challenges: from security threats and energy vulnerabilities to economic transformation, migration pressure, and the need to protect our shared democratic values. And also at a time when new geopolitical turbulence is coming from partners on whom Europe has long relied,” said Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.
She noted that a clear understanding and recognition of these challenges would make it possible to define the priorities of urgent common tasks — to withstand them and once again prove that Europe is stronger when united in its goals and actions.
For Ukraine, according to the Committee Chair, Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union holds particular importance. “We are defending not only our homeland, but also our European future as we see it and aspire to it — built on freedom, the rule of law, and human dignity. Therefore, we continue to hope for enhanced support and a clear roadmap for Ukraine’s membership in the EU. This is extremely important for us, and we are grateful to Cyprus for making it a priority of the Presidency,” Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze stressed.
She called on her colleagues to use Cyprus’s Presidency of the Council of the EU to strengthen common European security through decisive and urgent joint action. “Let us ensure that we do not break under the pressure of various centres of influence and under the pressure of aggression. We must accelerate the integration process as a response to geopolitical challenges. We are stronger when we are together,” said the Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU.
She expressed hope that the European project — which has always been a promise of unity rather than division, of hope rather than fear — would also become a reality for Ukrainians.
“We are paying an extremely high price for this choice, and we expect a firm, clear and resolute support and response from Europe,” Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze concluded.
