This was emphasised by Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, the Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU, during a meeting with members of the European Parliament. The meeting was attended by Vice-President of the European Parliament Pina Picerno from Italy, MPs Rafael Glucksmann and Thomas Pellerin-Carlen from France, Tobias Kremer and Michael Galler from Germany and Rainer van Lanschot from the Netherlands.

Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze emphasised that it is important that the European Union and its member states take clear further actions in support of Ukraine, in particular to strengthen military assistance and to increase pressure on the Russian Federation. The Chair of the Committee noted that the European Parliament has traditionally demonstrated its leadership position in defining the political framework for supporting Ukraine, and this leadership is extremely important now.

Particular attention was paid to the confiscation of Russian assets that could be used to assist Ukraine, as well as the need to strengthen sectoral sanctions against the Russian Federation. New sanctions packages must not be limited to additional sanctions against individuals and legal entities. “It should be about confiscation of Russian assets and increasingly tougher sectoral sanctions against the Russian Federation, and not just about additional sanctions against individuals and legal entities,” emphasised the Committee Chair.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the dynamics of Ukraine’s progress towards membership in the European Union. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze stressed that the European Parliament plays a key role in this process, and its support is important for continuing reforms and Ukraine’s further integration into the EU.
