Dmytro Kuleba — the opening of the negotiations with the EU is achievable by the end of the year
The Committee on Ukraine’s integration into the EU held a meeting with the
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba. Committee members and deputies
from other committees discussed with the minister the processes of
European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, challenges and joint
work.
‘We all closely monitor and support all initiatives related to European
integration. We are glad to have received a verbal assessment from the
European Commission,’ said the Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s
Integration into the EU Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze. She noted that the
members of the Committee are working at the bilateral and
interparliamentary level to ensure the maximum support of Ukraine on the
path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs assured that the work on Ukraine's
fulfilment of the seven requirements, which accompanied granting candidate
status to Ukraine, is ongoing. ‘Currently, the goal of opening
negotiations by the end of the year is quite achievable. The process is
moving forward. If there are no force majeure events, we will achieve this
goal. There is nothing unattainable about the assessment that was recently
given. There is work for the Parliament and the Government here. Everyone
is determined to fulfil the task to the best possible expend,’ said Dmytro
Kuleba.
He noted that Ukraine is moving in sync with Moldova in this process. But
Georgia, in his opinion, does not meet the conditions necessary for the
transition to the next stage of the European integration.
As for future challenges, the integration of the agricultural market of
Ukraine into the EU may become a significant difficulty. ‘We need to think
hard now about how we will solve this problem. How the agricultural market
of Ukraine will enter the market of the European Union. It will be a very
complicated process, which at some stage will require non-standard
solutions from the EU,’ Dmytro Kuleba said.
He also emphasised that Ukraine continues to work with partners to close
loopholes in sanctions against Russia.
