#AASuccessStories is a column about Ukrainians, who benefit from the
Association Agreement with the EU and enjoy opportunities for
cooperation with the European Union.
Today the section is about a unique natural, and recently also a
tourist place in the Cherkasy region, which is one of the seven wonders
of the area — the Tyasmyn canyon.
Tyasmyn Canyon is a landscape reserve in Cherkasy region. Its rocks
rise above the Tyasmyn river to 15 meters. Remoteness from humans has
made it possible to preserve rare species of plants and animals in
Tyasmyn. The rocks are covered with Tatar and American maples, which
are unusual for the Ukrainian landscape, and the animals found in the
canyon and on the banks of the river are listed in the Red Book of
Ukraine. Scientists say that the age of Tyasmyn rocks reaches two
billion years. The local rocks, according to the scientists, originated
in the era of melting glaciers, and the canyon itself was formed as a
result of tectonic shifts.
Two years ago, the tourism project “Tyasmyn Canyon” won the competition
for regional development projects. It received UAH 7.3 million in grant
funds from the EU. This money was spent on the arrangement of the
tourism infrastructure of the canyon.
What is the “Tyasmyn canyon” project
about?
The project provides for the creation of tourism infrastructure in
Tyasmyn canyon — arrangement of 3 springs, coastal zone, footpaths,
observation decks, stairs, places for swimming and active recreation.
It is planned to create three new tourist routes, as well as to expand
the existing route from Kholodny Yar to Tyasmyn Canyon.
The authors of the project also plan a three-kilometer shuttle route,
three stations for transporting tourists by boat, as well as a highway
and parking spaces at the entrance to the canyon. Reconstruction of the
old hotel is also planned.
What has already been implemented?
The pier, observation decks, paved paths and a paved walking route — in
one year the Tyasmyn canyon has turned from inaccessible place to an
attractive tourist attraction. Now one can walk round the canyon by
paved paths. At the beginning of the route you can view its map. There
the objects along the tourist path are marked: Pushkin Rock, pier,
observation decks. Two sources have been installed so far. Along with
the walking route there is also a shuttle. Every weekend local guides
conduct tours for at least 50 tourists. Visitors from different parts
of Ukraine come here. The only thing that is still missing — the locals
say — is a hotel. In the center of Kamyanka there is a building, which
was planned to be modernised, but the reconstruction was not carried
out. The community is currently looking for an investor to build the
hotel.
