The Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the European Union, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, emphasized this during a meeting with the State Secretary for the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Fernando Mariano Sampedro Marcos.

The parties discussed broader European integration processes and the next steps to be taken by EU Member States to provide practical support to Ukraine on its path to EU membership. In particular, they addressed the expected transfer to Ukraine of the European Union’s negotiating position on three additional clusters of the accession process. At present, such a decision may be conveyed in a working, informal format without formal approval by all 27 EU Member States.

Special attention was given to the need for further mobilization of international support for Ukraine, including the adoption of a decision to provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan, preparation of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, strengthening of defence assistance, support for Ukraine’s energy sector, and advancement of the process of establishing a special tribunal to ensure Russia’s accountability for its aggression against Ukraine.
“Colleagues are actively and effectively supporting Ukraine; however, the situation continuously requires additional mobilization of efforts. It is important that, at the political level in Spain, there is a clear understanding that Russia’s war against Ukraine is an existential threat to the entire European continent, despite the geographical distance,” Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze noted.
