The Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, and the First Deputy Chair of the Committee, Vadym Halaichuk, met with representatives of the global parliamentary network “United for Ukraine.” The parliamentarians arrived in Ukraine on Independence Day to express their support for Ukrainians in their fight for independence and to work together with their Ukrainian colleagues on joint steps to counter Russian aggression. The Deputy Chair of the Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, Yehor Cherniev, also took part in the meeting on the Ukrainian side.

The parliamentarians discussed security issues, prospects for negotiations on ending the war, as well as domestic reforms in Ukraine and European integration.

Ukrainian MPs urged their colleagues not to relax or expect that any negotiation process on ending the war in Ukraine would bring quick results. “Russia’s goals in this war, unfortunately, have not changed. We see and clearly understand that Putin is trying to buy time, constantly looking for excuses and fabricated reasons to delay holding bilateral or trilateral meetings,” said Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.

The Chair of the Committee stressed that the European side must be at the negotiation table, since this is about the security of the continent as a whole, not just Ukraine’s security. She also underlined that territorial concessions are unacceptable, because no concessions will stop Russia but will only fuel its appetite. “Instead, we must mobilize as much as possible to provide Ukraine with additional weapons and continue to put pressure on the aggressor through sanctions,” Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze said.

The discussion also touched upon Ukraine’s European integration. The Chair and the First Deputy Chair of the Committee called on their colleagues to work on removing artificial obstacles to the opening of the first cluster of negotiations with the EU. “At the same time, on our side, it is important to strengthen Ukraine’s reform agenda and not step back from it,” Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze noted.

First Deputy Chair of the Committee Vadym Halaichuk thanked his colleagues from the “United for Ukraine” network for their solidarity and personal visits to Ukraine. According to him, this is extremely important for further joint work to ensure that support for Ukraine in Europe and around the world remains unwavering.
