The Co-Chair of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee from the Ukrainian side, Vadym Halaichuk, and the Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, participated in the second meeting of the Chairs of the Committees of the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament. The meeting was opened by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee Co-Chair from the Ukrainian side, Vadym Halaichuk, thanked Roberta Metsola and Ruslan Stefanchuk for initiating inter-committee meetings. He noted that the Ukrainian and European sides hold regular meetings at the committee level, and over the past two years, there have been more than fifty of them. He highlighted that the Budget Committee alone has held 12 meetings – a record that sets an example for others. He also mentioned that Ukraine remains high on the agenda of the European Parliament. “We are very grateful for this. We need your support, advice and expertise to continue our movement on the path of European integration,” emphasised the PAC Co-Chair from the Ukrainian side. Just a few weeks ago, he said, the first meeting of the renewed composition of the Parliamentary Association Committee took place. “We have adopted several important decisions, including the decision to create a subcommittee on accession. It should help us coordinate our efforts in exercising parliamentary control over this crucial process,” said Vadym Halaichuk.

The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, thanked her European colleagues and personally the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, for her leadership in supporting Ukraine. “I thank all my fellow MEPs for their support through the adoption of the European Parliament resolutions in these difficult times for Ukraine. I am also grateful for your vision and leadership among other European institutions, for paving the way to support our European integration and our fight for democracy, independence and freedom,” said Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze. “This session is called resilience and solidarity. I believe that they are very important and have both internal and external aspects. It is impossible to work effectively if resilience or solidarity is lacking, or if they are just imitated.” Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze noted that resilience for Ukrainians goes beyond the war. It is also about the capacity to carry out transformations, implement reforms, uphold democracy and combat corruption. In all these areas, the support of European partners and especially the European Parliament, including a clear list of requirements for Ukraine, is critical. “We hope that with your support, we will be able to open negotiations on the first and sixth negotiation clusters with the EU already during the Polish presidency. To achieve this, additional efforts from both sides are needed. Your meticulous attention to the reform process in Ukraine is required so that we can more effectively carry out the transformations our state and people urgently need,” stated the Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU. According to her, not only the resilience of Ukrainians, but also European resilience should be addressed. “I am convinced that without a resilient Ukraine, there will be no resilient Europe and vice versa. As for solidarity, it is not only about political unity, compassion and support. It is about humanity, morality and shared responsibility. We hope that we can count on the European Parliament in this,” emphasised Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze. According to her, without internal solidarity in Ukraine, which preserves and protects human rights, the rule of law, democratic principles, and a system of checks and balances, it is impossible to expect solidarity from Europe. “From my point of view, this is one of the main goals that we should set at the level of inter-committee interaction. This will help us to ensure that a strong, European Ukraine becomes part of the European community, that Ukraine adheres to democratic values, preserves political and media pluralism, supports the rule of law and the independence of the branches of power. We count on you to support our efforts in this process,” concluded Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.
