The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze and the First Deputy Chair of the Committee Vadym Halaichuk met with the Deputy Chair of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality of the European Parliament Dainius Žalimas.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze expressed gratitude to Dainius Žalimas for his longstanding support for Ukraine. It was he who initially shared the idea, which was previously implemented by Lithuania, of enshrining the European integration course in Ukrainian Constitution. This strategic choice was formally adopted into Ukraine’s fundamental law at the beginning of 2019. “Now we must do everything to implement this course. There are many opportunities on this path, but also many challenges,” said the Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze and Vadym Halaichuk thanked the European Parliament for its ongoing support and fruitful cooperation during the almost three years of full-scale war. They stressed the importance of continuing and enhancing this interaction to ensure it remains as effective as possible.
First Deputy Chairman of the Committee Vadym Halaichuk, who is the Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on the Ukraine-EU Association from the Ukrainian side, noted that the formats of further interaction with the European Parliament, both within the PAC Bureau and other forums, are currently being agreed upon. He expressed hope that intensive cooperation would commence at the beginning of next year. He also hopes that the first negotiation cluster – Fundamentals – would be opened early next year under the Polish presidency of the Council of the EU.
Dainius Žalimas is convinced that the European Parliament also needs to evaluate current initiatives supporting Ukraine and formats of bilateral interaction to make them as effective as possible.
