The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU Ivanna
Klympush-Tsintsadze took part in the discussion “Security and Defence 2024
— Creating a security architecture for the 21st century”.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze thanked the member states of the North Atlantic
Alliance for their support. At the same time, she noted that Ukraine has
quite realistic expectations from the Washington summit this summer. “We
understand that influential NATO members have no appetite to move to a
more ambitious agenda in relations with Ukraine. We must understand that
one of Russia's goals in this war is to prevent Ukraine from joining the
Alliance. And this war will continue as long as the Russian Federation
realises that it prevents Ukraine from becoming a member of NATO,” said
the Chair of the Committee. Therefore, according to her, it is time to act
more creatively and strategically. Russia “swallowed” Finland's membership
in NATO, and it will also “swallow” Sweden's membership.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze is convinced that the West's only effective
strategy against the Russian Federation is determination and unity. “Once
Russia notices doubt and uncertainty, it advances its goals. So, the free
world, which is much larger than autocracies, must give a joint and united
rebuff,” said the Chair of the Committee. She emphasised that Ukraine will
continue to work to become a member of the Alliance, and hopes for
deepening cooperation, which includes providing not only non-lethal aid
but also lethal weapons. She is also sure that the allies should not be
afraid to formulate the defeat of Russia as the ultimate goal in the war.
