The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU stated
this during the 14th meeting of the Ukraine-EU Civil Society Platform.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze said that the historic decision of the European
Council to open negotiations with Ukraine is the result of joint work and
joint efforts of the Ukrainian people, politicians and civil society.
She also expressed gratitude to the leaders of the EU and
European institutions for their incredible support of Ukraine in the most
difficult times.
She noted that there is a lot of work to do, which requires strengthening
institutional capacities. “This applies, in particular, to the capacities
of the Ukraine-EU Civil Society Platform, the Committee on the Integration
of Ukraine into the EU, which I chair, the Parliamentary Committee of the
Ukraine-EU Association and governmental authorities. Strengthening
capacities is needed to fulfil the work we must do on the way to full
membership in the EU,” said the Chair of the Committee.
She noted that Ukraine has already fulfilled part of the additional
conditions of the European Commission by adopting three important draft
laws concerning the strengthening of anti-corruption institutions and
procedures and rights of national minorities in Ukraine. Ivanna
Klympush-Tsintsadze expressed her hope that the rest of the conditions
will be fulfilled just as quickly. At the same time, according to her, the
volume of work is much larger now, and therefore authorities and
institutions need reformatting and detailed planning of their work. “We
look forward to our committee meeting with the Ukraine-EU Civil Society
Platform next week. This will be an opportunity to set new clear goals and
time frames to ensure that the next stages of European integration will be
as successful as the previous ones,” said the Chair of the Committee. She
added that with inspiration, but, at the same time, with a clear
understanding of the scope of work and responsibility, Ukraine is ready to
move forward on its path to the EU.
