‘We are working with all the politicians of the world's capitals to speed up the support for Ukraine’, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze

The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU together with Ukrainian MPs met with the Chair of the faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in the Bundestag, Rolf Mutzenich, and the Chair of the SPD of Germany, Lars Klingbeil.

They discussed military support for Ukraine. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze emphasised that it’s essential to support Ukrainian Armed Forces with modern Western weapons and ammunition. Lives of Ukrainians, peace and stability on the continent depend on the speed, quantity and quality of this aid. ‘The position of the German Social Democrats is important to us because they are a powerful force in the Bundestag, and further assistance to Ukraine largely depends on them. We are working with all the politicians of the world capitals to speed up as much as possible the provision of support to defeat the Russians,’ Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze informed. She noted that the parties also discussed bringing Russia, its leaders and those guilty of crimes committed in Ukraine to justice. Therefore, it is necessary to create a legal tool like a Special Tribunal to punish the Russian Federation. The Chair of the Committee insisted that the punishment should be severe and inevitable. She also reminded her German colleagues that the responsibility for the war lies not only with the highest leaders of Russia, but also with its people, who actively or silently support the attack on Ukraine.

Ukrainian and German parliamentarians also discussed the continuation of reforms in Ukraine. Democratic freedoms and principles are the basis of any democratic society and an indispensable condition for Ukraine's accession to the EU. Germany has been supporting the decentralisation reform in Ukraine for years. This reform gave powerful development to local self-government. According to both sides, it should be continued even during the war.
