Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze: ‘Rosatom and the entire Russian nuclear industry should be included in the 10th sanctions package’
The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into the EU met with
the President of the Chamber of Representatives of the Federal Parliament
of Belgium Elian Tillieux and with the co-Chairman of the Federal Advisory
Committee on European Affairs of the Belgian Senate Gaetan Van
Goidsenhoven.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze thanked the Belgian people for the political
support of Ukraine, as well as for the military, financial and
humanitarian assistance. She called for increasing this support,
especially providing weapons, which would enable Ukraine to protect its
citizens and liberate its territories. The Chair of the Committee
emphasised that the quantity, quality and speed of the weapons supply is
essential, because people's lives depend on it. She also emphasised that
Ukraine needs further support in the process of fulfilling the conditions
that accompanied granting of candidate status for EU membership. The
fulfilment of these requirements should pave the way for negotiations on
EU membership. ‘We hope that in spring we will receive feedback from the
European Commission so that we can do our utmost to fulfil
these seven requirements and the support for the European future of
Ukraine continues,’ said Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.
Regarding the sanctions, the Chair of the Committee is convinced that the
10th sanctions package, which is currently being prepared in the EU,
should contain restrictive measures against the Russian company Rosatom
and the entire Russian nuclear industry. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze also
emphasised that there is a need for careful monitoring of compliance with
the sanctions already introduced against Russia. It’s essential to close
the loopholes which enable the aggressor country and its companies to
circumvent these sanctions.
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze noted that it was nice to hear from Mrs.
Tillieux that Ukraine is largely supported by the Belgian society.
Usually, Belgians in different regions have different opinions about
domestic and international politics. But, according to Mrs. Tillieux, this
is a unique situation when the country is united in the desire to continue
supporting Ukraine financially and militarily.
Belgium will take the Presidency in the European Union in January next
year. The Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the EU
invited Belgian colleagues to visit Ukraine. ‘It would be important,
together with Ukraine, taking into account the opinions from our side, to
start planning the agenda of the Belgian presidency right now,’ said
Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.
