international cooperation of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
Thanks to the reconstruction, with the financial support of the EU, 40
kids will receive a home and care in the Monastery complex of the
Reformers Fathers, and the Center for cultural dialogue, created in the
complex, will allow Rava-Ruska to become a center of Ukrainian-Polish
cultural dialogue. This story is today in the #AASuccessStories section.
#AASuccessStories is a column about Ukrainians, who benefit from the
Association Agreement with the EU and enjoy opportunities for
cooperation with the European Union.
Church of St. Michael and the Reformers Fathers Monastery — the oldest
preserved architectural monument in the town of Rava-Ruska will be
restored with the financial support of the EU under the cross-border
cooperation program “Poland - Belarus - Ukraine 2014-2020”. The project
in Rava-Ruska is being implemented jointly with a similar project in
Wengrow, Poland. The total cost of the reconstruction is almost 2.5
million Euro of which more than 880 thousand Euro will be directed to
Rava-Ruska. In Rava-Ruska, the project is implemented by the
Caritas-Spes.
In the complex of the former monastery, 4 family-type orphanages will
be created, which will accommodate 40 kids. The church also will be
restored. Restoration of the Monastery complex of the Reformers Fathers
began in 2015 with the repair of the roof. It was made at the expense
of the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Poland.
“An agreement was reached to transfer the building of the former
Monastery complex of the Reformers Fathers to the Curia of the Lviv
Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church free of charge, subject to the
construction of a family-type orphanage on its basis, consisting of
four segments for four families of 10-12 people”, —Head of the Service
for Children of the Lviv Regional State Administration Volodymyr Lys
informed. Project coordinator Markiyan Stefanyshyn said, that a
significant part of the repair and restoration works had already been
done, in particular: the roof had been insulated, the screed in the
attic had been flooded, sewerage and drainage had been installed, and
dismantling works had been carried out.
“The boiler house has been reconstructed. Within the
tourist-promotional part of the project, historical research on the
Reformers Fathers monasteries in the Lviv region was conducted and a
brochure on the Reformers monastery in Rava-Ruska was published. More
than 260 thousand Euro of the grant and 535 thousand hryvnias of the
own contribution of the Curia of the Lviv Archdiocese of the Roman
Catholic Church were used for these activities”, - Markiyan Stefanyshyn
reported.
The Church of St. Michael was built in 1729-1737 in the Baroque style
by the famous Italian architect Paul Fontana on the site of an old
wooden church. In 1738 the church was consecrated in honor of St.
Michael. Later, a two-story monastery with cells was added to the
church. Traces of 19th-century murals and fragments of wooden altars
have survived in the interior of the church. Its facade is decorated
with painted images of St. Francis and St. Anthony. The two-storey
premises are arranged in a way to form a large courtyard. Remains of
the monastery garden have been preserved on the territory of the
ensemble, surrounded by walls with an entrance gate.
Successful implementation of the project will not only preserve the
architectural monument, but also deepen good neighbourly relations with
Poland and give the Monastery Complex of the Reformers Fathers a new
social significance - the representatives of the Department of
international technical assistance and international cooperation of
Lviv Regional State Administration say. They admit that the project, in
addition to infrastructure, has a strong social, historical, cultural
and tourist meaning. In particular, it provides for the creation of a
tourist route of the Post-Reformation monasteries, which will increase
the tourist attractiveness of border areas. The construction of the
Center for dialogue of cultures will allow Rava-Ruska to become a
center for the development of dialogue between Polish-Ukrainian
cultures through youth exchanges, scientific conferences, cultural and
other events.
In general, within the framework of cross-border cooperation in the
field of preservation of historical, cultural and natural heritage, out
of 17 selected programs in three countries, 10 are implemented in Lviv
region. 6.5 of the 32 million Euro are provided for projects in the
Lviv region. In addition to Rava-Ruska, there will also be funding for
historical and cultural monuments in Pidkameny, Skole, as well as
environmental projects in Chervonohrad, Skhidnytsia and Dobromyl.
